Lovely Runner - Easter Eggs & Hidden Details
Easter Eggs
The story is structured around real-life solar eclipses.
The time travel begins on the day of the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century, July 22, 2009. The first episode of the series aired on April 8, 2024, a day which also featured a major solar eclipse. This celestial alignment is directly linked to the name of Sun-jae's K-pop group, "Eclipse," and the solar-powered watch that enables the time travel, creating a clever thematic link between the plot and real-world events.
Foreshadowing marriage through traditional Korean symbols.
In several scenes where Sol and Sun-jae share important romantic moments, traditional Korean wedding lanterns (Cheongsachorong) are visible in the background. Additionally, in a seemingly comedic scene, Sol's grandmother draws red dots on her cheeks while she sleeps, a direct reference to a traditional wedding custom where dots were painted on a bride's face to ward off evil spirits, subtly foreshadowing Sol and Sun-jae's eventual wedding.
Sol's Grandmother as the 'Mastermind'.
Throughout the series, Sol's grandmother, Jung Mal-ja, who is said to have dementia, shows mysterious moments of lucidity and seems to know more than she lets on. She is often seen with the time-travel watch at critical moments. The final episode confirms fan theories by revealing she was aware of the time travel and intentionally facilitated it, throwing the watch away only after the couple secured their happy ending, positioning her as the benevolent, hidden architect of their fate.
