Up - Easter Eggs & Hidden Details
Easter Eggs
The Pizza Planet Truck from "Toy Story" makes an appearance.
The Pizza Planet truck is a recurring Easter egg in nearly every Pixar film. In "Up," it can be spotted twice: once at an intersection as Carl's house first floats over the town, and again in the parking lot of the ice cream parlor at the end of the film.
The code "A113" appears in the film.
"A113" is an inside joke referring to the classroom number at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) where many prominent animators, including several Pixar directors, studied. This code appears in every Pixar film. In "Up," it's the number of the courtroom Carl is summoned to.
Lotso, the villain from "Toy Story 3," is seen in a little girl's bedroom.
Pixar often includes characters from their upcoming films as Easter eggs. As Carl's house floats past a child's window, the pink Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear from "Toy Story 3" (which was released the following year) can be seen on the floor near her bed.
The Pixar Ball (Luxo Ball) appears in the same girl's bedroom.
The iconic yellow ball with a blue stripe and red star, which first appeared in the Pixar short "Luxo, Jr.," is another recurring Easter egg. It can be seen on the floor of the same bedroom where the Lotso bear appears.
John Ratzenberger voices a character.
John Ratzenberger is considered Pixar's "good luck charm" and has had a voice role in every single Pixar feature film. In "Up," he voices Construction Foreman Tom, who speaks to Carl early in the film.
The Grape Soda brand is a reference to "Toy Story."
The brand of grape soda on the bottle cap that becomes the "Ellie Badge" is the same brand featured in a commercial for Buzz Lightyear in the original "Toy Story."
