Vengeance — Ending Explained

Following Captain Carlos Estrada's arrest of drug lord Héctor Luna, corrupt military officers in Campo Marte—headed by Colonel Gabriela Rangel—order a hit on Carlos. Foreign assassin Vasil ambushes Carlos and slays his wife, Alicia. Carlos survives and hides in a small village, protected by Captain Miguel Díaz. Spending his last pesos on lottery tickets, he hits a 1-billion-peso jackpot. Carlos buys illegal military weaponry, armored vehicles, and recruits GAFE comrades Lola and Chunco.

Carlos's team launches a tactical assault on Colonel Rangel's military compound. Lola and Chunco provide heavy sniper and heavy-weapons support while Carlos fights his way through corrupt guards using tactical gun-fu. Carlos hunts down assassin Vasil and kills him in brutal close-quarters combat. He then confronts Colonel Rangel, forcing her to confess her corruption before executing her.

Despite achieving total retribution, Carlos is left spiritually hollow. Miguel survives but walks away from Carlos, refusing to remain part of his endless war. The film ends with Carlos sitting alone inside his luxury Bentley surrounded by destruction, realizing that no amount of money or bloodshed can bring Alicia back.
