He wants to become a creator himself, surpassing the flawed humans who made him and the Engineers who made them.

David first appears as a lonely survivor of an earlier mission. He is gradually revealed as an artist of extinction who destroyed the Engineers and has been breeding monsters. In the end he takes Walter's identity and gains control of the colony ship.

His duty is to serve and protect the Covenant's crew and colonists.

Walter is a newer, more obedient model of synthetic. He protects the crew and refuses David's offer to reign in hell. He then fights David off-screen, and David takes his place.

She wants to survive and keep the colonists safe.

Daniels goes from grieving crew member to hardened survivor who defeats the xenomorph aboard the ship. As she goes into cryosleep, she realizes too late that the android beside her is David.
