Clannad — Characters & Cast

At first he wants to get away from his home. Later he wants to protect the family he has made.

He begins as a cynical delinquent who resents his father. Through Nagisa he opens up to other people. In After Story he works, marries and becomes a father, falls into grief, and then accepts his role as Ushio's father and sees himself in his own father.

She wants to take small, brave steps forward and love the people and places around her.

She is a sickly, timid girl repeating her final year who wants to bring the drama club back to life. Over the series she becomes Tomoya's partner and the emotional center of the family.

His family's happiness.

Nagisa's loud, childish father who runs the bakery. He becomes the father figure Tomoya never had.

She wants to nurture and protect everyone she thinks of as family.

Nagisa's cheerful mother, whose awful bread is a running joke. She is a steady source of comfort in both seasons.

Loyalty to his friend, though he rarely admits it.

Tomoya's best friend and fellow slacker, who provides most of the physical comedy. His friendship with Tomoya lasts into adulthood.
