Key Twists & Revelations:
- The Root of Josh's Fog: Josh's mental decay was not early-onset dementia, but the subconscious resistance to the hypnosis that wiped his memories of saving Dalton in 2013.
- Ben Burton's Identity: Josh discovers that his estranged father, Ben Burton, was also an astral projector who was misdiagnosed with severe psychosis and ended his own life to prevent demons from entering our world.
- The Red Door's Re-emergence: Dalton's charcoal art pieces inadvertently reopen the psychic gateway, allowing the Lipstick-Face Demon to target him again.
Climax and Resolution:
Dalton enters The Further to rescue Josh, who is pinned down by the Lipstick-Face Demon behind the Red Door. Realizing that one of them must stay behind to physically hold the demonic door shut from inside The Further, Josh insists on sacrificing himself so Dalton can return to his physical body.
Once back in his dorm room with Chris, Dalton refuses to let his father perish. Dalton dips his paintbrush into black paint and paints entirely over the red door in his canvas. As the canvas turns solid black, the Red Door in The Further transforms into impenetrable obsidian, sealing the Lipstick-Face Demon behind it and allowing Josh to escape back to his body. Rather than erasing their memories again, Josh and Dalton choose to remember everything, finally achieving peace and family reconciliation.
