Set nearly a decade after the harrowing events of Insidious: Chapter 2, the Lambert family remains fractured by unseen scars. Josh Lambert is divorced from Renai and struggles with persistent mental fog and emotional detachment. His eldest son, Dalton, is preparing to leave home for an East Coast art college, harboring unresolved resentment toward a father he feels disconnected from. Both father and son share a quiet void in their memories—the result of a hypnotic suppression that wiped away the nightmare of their astral projection into the sinister realm known as "The Further".
At university, Dalton is challenged by his demanding art professor, Armagan, to dive into his deepest subconscious memories through a rigorous exercise. As Dalton draws from his repressed mind, he begins sketching a mysterious red door, inadvertently peeling back the mental barrier protecting him. Simultaneously, Josh undergoes neurological tests to diagnose his chronic memory issues, triggering haunting visions and encounters with malevolent presences.
With the supernatural boundary between the waking world and The Further eroding, father and son independently begin to realize that their forgotten past refuses to stay buried. Guided by new allies and fragmented recollections, they are forced on a collision course with the demonic legacy that has preyed upon generations of their family.
