The middle seasons of the run see him escalate from manipulation to outright violence, including striking Na Jeong-im with his car and commissioning the pension scheme designed to imprison Yoon Sol.

His final movement is the one the series was built for: the collapse of the fortress, and the forced confrontation with the cheollyun he violated. Kim Yu-seok's performance was singled out in coverage precisely for this unbroken chain of escalating atrocity.
