Initially, his motivation is mere survival and solving the Astrophage puzzle. Later, it evolves into an altruistic drive to save both Earth and his new friend, Rocky.

Grace begins his journey waking up in amnesiac confusion. As his memories return, he must reconcile with the shameful realization that he was a coward who refused to volunteer for the mission. Ultimately, he achieves redemption by voluntarily sacrificing his return to Earth to save Rocky's planet.

To find a cure for the Astrophage infection destroying the star of his home planet, Erid.

Rocky is the sole survivor of his own species' desperate mission. He learns to trust a bizarre, 'leaky space blob' (Grace) and adapts to human concepts of humor and affection. His arc is one of bridging the gap between utter alien isolation and profound companionship.

The absolute, non-negotiable survival of the human race, regardless of the ethical cost.

Stratt does not have a traditional redemption arc; rather, she remains stoically committed to her terrifying responsibility. She is granted total immunity and global authority, and she wields it without hesitation, accepting that history will likely view her as a monster.
