Rent-a-Girlfriend — Ending Explained

⚠️ Spoiler Analysis

In Season 1, Kazuya rents Chizuru following a breakup with Mami, leading to an entangled web of lies when they discover they are next-door neighbors and their grandmothers are hospitalized together. Kazuya saves Chizuru from drowning at sea, and Ruka blackmails him into a provisional relationship after discovering the rental secret.

In Season 2, Chizuru reveals her acting aspirations and impending failure to land a role before Grandma Sayuri passes away, while Mami begins manipulating Kazuya's grandmother. The season concludes with Kazuya proposing to crowdfund an independent movie starring Chizuru.

In Season 3, with assistance from streamer Mini Yaemori, Kazuya successfully executes the crowdfunding campaign and produces the movie. When Sayuri collapses before the premiere, Kazuya brings a projector to the hospital so she can see Chizuru on screen before dying. On a subsequent cheer-up date, Kazuya delivers a heartfelt confession of Chizuru's worth as his "ideal girlfriend," finally breaking her stoic facade and allowing her to mourn openly.
