Soul Eater — Characters & Cast
Character Analysis
Maka Albarn
Chiaki Omigawa
Motivation
At first, to live up to her mother's legacy and prove herself. Later, to protect her friends and stand against madness.
Character Arc
She begins as a strict top student who is determined to turn Soul into a Death Scythe, partly to outdo her womanizing father. Over the series she learns to trust her partner and her own soul-perception. In the anime's ending she faces the Kishin with nothing but raw courage. The series frames this as her defining quality.
Soul Evans
Koki Uchiyama
Motivation
To become a Death Scythe for Maka, and later to protect her even at personal cost.
Character Arc
A laid-back scythe who is obsessed with being "cool." He hides an inner struggle with the black blood and the madness it invites. His arc is about resisting that temptation and becoming a partner Maka can rely on completely.
Black☆Star
Yumiko Kobayashi
Motivation
To be the biggest star in the world. Over time this becomes a real drive to get stronger.
Character Arc
A loud assassin who wants to "surpass God." He learns through defeats that strength needs discipline and respect for his partner. In the end he is one of the people who recognize Maka's bravery.
Death the Kid
Mamoru Miyano
Motivation
To uphold order and symmetry, and eventually to prove himself worthy of his father's role.
Character Arc
Lord Death's son, famous for his breakdowns over asymmetry ("asymmetrical garbage!"). He slowly grows toward the responsibility that comes with his inheritance, with order and duty set against his own imperfections.
Asura
Unknown (not confirmed by the searches)
Motivation
To escape all fear by consuming and walling off everything unknown.
Character Arc
The first Kishin, sealed beneath Death City. When he is released, fear-driven madness spreads across the world. In the anime's finale he is defeated by courage, not by strength.
