As a child, Shelly brutally killed a classmate named Tamara with a rock after playing a door-knocking game, and her childhood friend (Young Scarecrow) helped her draw a smiley face in the blood—giving birth to the iconic line "Is Tamara home?".
• The Hospital Breach: The Strangers track Maya to Venus County Hospital, slitting the throats of staff and forcing Maya to escape into the dense woods.
• The Safe House Trap: Maya is briefly rescued by a state trooper (who is quickly killed with a crossbow) and ends up at a local house inhabited by Nurse Danica, Chris, Wayne, and Gregory. Gregory reveals that no one has ever survived the Strangers before. Shortly after Gregory leaves, the Strangers slaughter everyone in the house, including an EMT driver sent by Maya's sister, Debbie.
