Carter's Real Identity: Carter is actually Michael Bane, a former agent who defected to North Korea and married North Korean agent Han Jung-hee. When their daughter contracted the deadly DMZ virus, Carter voluntarily underwent memory suppression and surgical implants so he could pass CIA lie-detector tests and operate undercover in Seoul to find Dr. Jung's antibody-carrying daughter, Ha-na.
The Military Coup Twist: North Korean General Kim Jong-hyeok orchestrated an internal military coup using infected DMZ soldiers to control the antibody child, weaponize the virus, and take political command, rather than distributing a global cure.
Memory Restoration & Cure: Once Carter delivers Ha-na to the North Korean lab, the head implant is removed, restoring his full memory. Using Ha-na’s blood, Dr. Jung synthesizes a cure and saves Carter's daughter.
The Final Climax: Carter, Jung-hee, their cured daughter, Dr. Jung, and Ha-na fight their way out onto an international train bound for China. As the train crosses a high railway bridge, a sudden explosion destroys the tracks ahead, sending the train plunging into the abyss as the film abruptly cuts to black.
