Corpus Christi — Ending Explained

Daniel's dark secret is that he is a convicted murderer, having killed a man during a youthful brawl. His precarious facade in the village is threatened when a fellow juvie inmate, Pinczer, arrives and attempts to blackmail him. Ultimately, Daniel's former mentor, Father Tomasz, is tipped off and arrives to expose the fraud.

Before he is forced to leave, Daniel delivers a shocking final 'mass.' Instead of a traditional sermon, he wordlessly strips off his liturgical vestments in front of the congregation, revealing his gang tattoos and scarred torso—forcing them to look at his true, flawed, and violent self: the literal Body of Christ. Back in the youth detention center, he is targeted by Bonus, the brother of the man he killed. In a horrific, animalistic fight, Daniel brutally survives, staggering toward the camera with a bloodied face, leaving his physical fate ambiguous but cementing his spiritual martyrdom. Intercut with this, the town finally allows the scapegoated driver to be buried alongside the other victims, proving Daniel's mission succeeded even if it cost him his freedom.
