Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga — Ending Explained

⚠️ Spoiler Analysis

After years in the Citadel, Furiosa tries to take the War Rig and get home. Jack and she fight on, and Furiosa loses her arm escaping Dementus and loses her map to the homeland. Jack is killed in the battle, and Joe promotes her to Imperator for her role in destroying Dementus's raiders. She then hunts Dementus down. He tells her that killing him will not make her whole and that she has become like him. Instead of shooting him, she plants a peach pit in his body, and a tree grows from it. The History Man offers conflicting tales of his fate. Furiosa gives a peach to Joe's brides and hides them in the rig, setting up Fury Road.

The hidden meaning is that her revenge is converted into life: a tree grows from the corpse of the man who stole her home.

Alternative Interpretations

The ending is told by a potentially unreliable narrator, so Dementus's fate can be read as legend rather than fact. Some see Furiosa's peach tree as redemption, others as a cruel act that proves Dementus's claim that she has become like him.
