Major Plot Spoilers:
The Father's Sacrifice: Mid-way through their trek across the dried seabed, Tom (Andreas Pietschmann) suffers fatal injuries during an attack/landslide incident. His death removes the family’s intellectual guide, forcing Julia to take sole charge.
Human Antagonism: The family is relentlessly hunted by 'L'homme au harpon' (Arben Bajraktaraj), a survivor driven insane by the collapse. Cassie and Julia are ultimately forced to kill him in visceral self-defense to prevent him from taking their gear.
Third-Act Creature Attack: The true threat shifts from human madness to biological horror. As night falls on the seabed, swarms of carnivorous abyssal arthropods (giant mutated deep-sea crabs) emerge from deep earth fissures to hunt living flesh, turning the film into a creature feature.
The Secondary Shift & Ending: Julia and the kids reach the rendezvous point near Captain Nao’s deep-sea submersible. Just as Nao warns them of limited space/time, the secondary magnetic shift triggers. A massive tsunami wall of returning oceanic water rushes across the desert floor. Julia manages to seal Ben and Cassie safely inside the submersible pod just in time as the ocean sweeps back over the land, successfully saving her children as the world's waters return.
