Mabel Tanaka is a passionate young animal activist determined to protect her local glade—a pristine environment where she once bonded with her late grandmother. The glade is under imminent threat from Mayor Jerry Generazzo, a smooth-talking politician aiming to pave it over for the lucrative "Beaverton Beltway". Desperate to stop the development, Mabel discovers that her college professor, Dr. Sam, has invented a groundbreaking consciousness-transfer technology.
Seizing the opportunity, Mabel "hops" her mind into a lifelike robotic beaver to infiltrate the animal kingdom and rally them against the human threat. In the wild, she meets the charismatic King George the Beaver and must quickly learn the harsh and chaotic "pond rules" governing animal society. As she navigates this bizarre new world, she forms unlikely alliances with eccentric creatures, including a manic caterpillar and a terrifying Insect Queen.
As the conflict escalates into a massive battle for the glade, Mabel learns that her aggressive, grief-fueled anger cannot solve the crisis. Instead, she must embrace the constructive, patient nature of the beavers to build a lasting solution, outsmarting the corrupt mayor and bringing harmony to the human and animal worlds.
