Ladies First is a high-concept fantasy romantic comedy directed by Thea Sharrock from a screenplay penned by Katie Silberman, Natalie Krinsky, and Cinco Paul. The story centers on Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen), an unrepentant, smooth-talking advertising executive at London’s prestigious agency Atlas. Damien enjoys a life of unearned privilege, wealth, and disposable romantic conquests, treating his female colleagues as background scenery while competing to succeed his retiring CEO.
During a high-stakes pitch for a female-focused campaign, Damien impulsively lies about promoting a woman to leadership to appease client demands. He hastily elevates talented creative Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike) purely for boardroom optics. When Alex realizes she is merely a token figurehead subjected to Damien’s condescending microaggressions, she storms out in disgust. Desperate to preserve his impending promotion, Damien pursues her into the street, slips, and strikes his head hard against a pole.
Damien regains consciousness in what seems to be the exact same city, but finds the rules of civilization turned entirely upside down. He has awakened in a fully realized matriarchy where women command institutional power, conduct business with predatory swagger, and dominate public space, while men are relegated to decorative, objectified, and subservient roles. Stripped of his authority, Damien must navigate this inverted society while reporting to a fiercely ambitious, swaggering version of Alex Fox, sparking a battle of wits that challenges every patriarchal assumption he has ever held.
