Moana (2026) is a live-action musical adventure directed by Thomas Kail, adapting Disney's 2016 animated classic into physical environments with real-world Pacific Island settings. Set on the Polynesian island of Motunui, the narrative follows Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia), a strong-willed chieftain's daughter drawn to the boundless open ocean despite strict tribal edicts forbidding anyone from journeying beyond the reef. When an ecological blight strikes her island, threatening her people's crops and marine life, Moana learns that an ancient wrong must be righted to heal the land.
Guided by the spirit and stories of her grandmother Tala, Moana defies her father's rules and embarks on an open-ocean voyage across the Pacific. Her mission is to track down Maui (Dwayne Johnson), a charismatic yet temperamental shape-shifting demigod whose past actions set the curse in motion, and compel him to help deliver an ancient relic to its rightful place.
Facing perilous ocean currents, legendary mythical creatures, and internal self-doubt, Moana and Maui forge an unlikely alliance. Their quest tests the limits of their courage as they sail into uncharted waters to confront catastrophic forces and restore harmony across the natural world.
