Begins as a cynical U.S. Marine Captain who detests Joseon for executing his parents. As he falls in love with Ae-shin and witnesses the noble spirit of commoners, he sacrifices his military status, American citizenship, and life to become a shield for Joseon.

Starts as a sheltered aristocratic noblewoman secretly training as an assassin. Over time, she matures into a hardened commander of the Righteous Army, enduring the loss of her family, home, and love to lead future generations of resistance fighters.

A butcher's son who fled to Japan to escape systemic abuse and became the leader of the ruthless Musin Yakuza society. Sold by her traitorous father (Lee Wan-ik) to an elderly Japanese merchant, she inherits the Glory Hotel upon his death. Initially playing all political sides to maintain her autonomy, she becomes a key asset for the Emperor and resistance, blowing up her hotel to destroy Japanese commanders.

Returns to Joseon after ten years of idleness in Japan, burdened by guilt over his grandfather's cruel, land-stealing wealth. He rejects a comfortable life to found an underground newspaper, taking photos and documenting Japanese war crimes until he is tortured and killed in prison.
