The plot kicks off when Mason rescues Jessie from a storm that kills her uncle. To get her antibiotics, he visits the mainland and is flagged by THEA (Total Human Engagement Analytics), an illegal AI surveillance system run by corrupt MI6 director Steven Manafort. Mason is revealed to be a former operative of a defunct wet-work unit called 'Black Kite,' holding encryption keys to evidence that would destroy Manafort. Manafort dispatches a sociopathic assassin named Workman to kill them.
After surviving a booby-trapped beach assault and a brutal nightclub shootout, Mason eliminates Workman and takes down Manafort. In the aftermath, Manafort's protégé, Roberta Frost, assumes control of MI6.
Three months later, Jessie lives under a new identity in Ronda, Spain, closely monitored by Frost in hopes of tracking Mason. A waiter presents Jessie with a chess piece—a callback to Mason's lighthouse days. Mason is seen briefly watching from afar before vanishing, revealing that while he survived, he must remain a silent protector from the shadows, outmaneuvering MI6.
