Season 1 (Aincrad & Fairy Dance):
- Heathcliff's Identity: Commander Heathcliff of the Knights of the Blood is revealed to be Akihiko Kayaba himself, operating the ultimate game boss from within player ranks. Kirito deduces this by recognizing Heathcliff's impossible reaction speeds.
- Early Game Clear: Kirito challenges Kayaba to a duel on Floor 75 instead of waiting for Floor 100, clearing the death game early.
- Asuna's Captivity: Upon waking, Kirito finds 300 players, including Asuna, held hostage in ALfheim Online by Sugou Nobuyuki (Oberon), who seeks to force Asuna into marriage. Kirito uses Kayaba's lingering system credentials ("GM authority") to defeat Sugou.
Season 2 (Phantom Bullet & Mother's Rosario):
- Death Gun Identity: Death Gun is not a single entity, but a co-op murder plot executed by surviving members of the SAO red guild "Laughing Coffin" (Shinkawa Shouichi) and his brother Kyouji, using a real-world tandem break-in routine.
- Yuuki’s Terminal Illness: Yuuki Konno’s legendary combat speed in ALO is due to her living continuously in FullDive via the Medicuboid, as she is in the final stages of AIDS.
Seasons 3 & 4 (Alicization & War of Underworld):
- Rath & Project Alicization: Underworld is not a commercial VR game, but a military research project conducted by Rath (a JSDF initiative) to create autonomous AI weapons.
- Quinella’s Control: Administrator (Quinella) merged her Fluctlight with the system core, maintaining absolute control over Underworld via the "Taboo Index". Eugeo turns into a giant sword to destroy her barrier, sacrificing his life.
- The 200-Year Stagnation: To prevent Gabriel Miller from capturing Alice, Kirito defeats Miller but becomes stuck in Underworld alongside Asuna. They spend 200 virtual years living as the "Star King and Star Queen" of Underworld. Upon waking in the real world, their memories of those two centuries are sealed to preserve their sanity.
