Set in an alternate retro-futuristic 1960s universe designated as Earth-828, The Fantastic 4: First Steps bypasses traditional origin tropes to present Marvel’s First Family as fully established global icons. For four years, brilliant scientist Reed Richards, his wife Sue Storm, her fiery brother Johnny Storm, and Reed’s rock-skinned best friend Ben Grimm have saved New York from bizarre threats, gracing magazine covers and living in the public eye. Their lives take a deeply human turn when Reed and Sue discover they are expecting their first child, bringing immense joy and protective warmth to the Baxter Building.
However, this idyllic mid-century world is shattered when a gleaming alien figure, Shalla-Bal (the Silver Surfer), arrives over Times Square with a terrifying prophecy: Earth has been marked for death by Galactus, an ancient, god-like entity that feeds on entire worlds. Realizing the existential stakes, the quartet boards their advanced spacecraft, The Excelsior, to negotiate directly with the cosmic devourer in deep space.
Instead of an easy treaty, the team is forced to face an unthinkable moral choice that pits their heroic obligation to humanity against their fierce devotion to their growing family. As mass hysteria grips Earth-828 and public adoration quickly turns to panic, the Fantastic Four must rely on their scientific ingenuity, unshakeable familial bond, and extraordinary abilities to survive a cosmic horror beyond human comprehension.
