In Season 1, Lala flees to Earth to escape arranged suitors. When Rito defends himself, stating marriage requires mutual love, the Devilukean royal guard misinterprets his statement as a proposal. King Gid Lucione Deviluke permits the engagement, testing whether Rito can protect Lala.

In Motto, Lala's twin sisters Momo and Nana arrive on Earth. Witnessing Rito's selflessness, Momo secretly falls in love with him. Understanding that Rito loves Haruna while Lala loves Rito, Momo conceives "Operation Harem"—a plan to make Rito emperor so he can legally marry all the girls without causing heartbreak.

In Darkness, it is revealed that Golden Darkness was created by Dr. Tearju Lunatique as a biological weapon named "Eve". A secondary weapon from the same project, Mea Kurosaki, arrives alongside her master, Nemesis. Nemesis seeks to forcibly activate Yami's dormant "Darkness Mode"—a berserker state designed to destroy planets.

In the Darkness 2nd climax, Nemesis triggers Darkness Mode, transforming Yami into an emotionless cosmic threat. Momo realizes that because Darkness Mode relies on total coldness, the transformation can be disrupted by overloading Yami with extreme embarrassment. Rito hazards his safety, putting himself in absurd, accidental physical contact with Darkness-Yami. The overwhelming bashfulness breaks the weapon virus, restoring Yami to her normal self. Lacking a physical body, Nemesis merges into Rito's household as a small entity. In the finale, Yami softly utters "Thank you, Rito," acknowledging her deep connection to him, while Momo continues her quest to execute the Harem Plan.
