In the opening half, Michaela believes Lee Do-ha is simply an oasis who miraculously stops her countdown timer from running out. However, the central twist fundamentally flips the dynamic: her timer does not merely pause—it begins absorbing Do-ha’s lifespan. Every extra day she gains is stolen directly from his life.
Realizing she is effectively killing him, Michaela attempts to sever all connection, choosing to face her impending demise alone rather than allow him to perish. Do-ha eventually decodes her secret and refuses to let her die alone, accepting that his lifespan will deplete if it allows her to survive.
In the climactic finale, as Michaela’s clock approaches zero, a catastrophic traffic accident occurs. Do-ha throws his body in front of an oncoming vehicle to shield Michaela. Both suffer severe injuries and are brought to the hospital on the brink of death. In their shared near-death state, their linked countdown timers reach zero simultaneously. Instead of perishing, both wake up recovered: the supernatural clocks have vanished entirely. The supernatural curse is broken, leaving them to live out normal, fragile human lifespans side-by-side, cherishing each day in blissful ignorance of when their time will end.
