The entire narrative of "Alchemy of Souls" is built on a series of major revelations. The first is that Jang Uk is not the son of Jang Gang, but the son of the former King, whose soul inhabited Jang Gang's body for seven days—a secret that explains why Jang Uk was born under the King's Star and why his gate of energy was sealed.
The identity of Mu-deok is the series' central mystery. It is revealed in stages that she is not just the vessel for Naksu's soul, but the physical body of Jin Bu-yeon, the long-lost, firstborn daughter of the Jin family who was presumed dead. This is why she possessed immense divine powers. The finale of Season 1 sees Jin Mu use a spell to awaken Naksu's assassin instincts within Mu-deok's body, causing her to petrify and kill Jang Uk before his resurrection by the Ice Stone.
In Season 2, the resurrected body of Jin Bu-yeon now houses Naksu's soul but has taken on Naksu's original appearance (played by Go Youn-jung) and has amnesia. The ultimate twist is revealed by Master Lee: the original soul of Jin Bu-yeon was actually the reincarnation of Jin Seol-ran, the legendary priestess who first encountered the Ice Stone. Seol-ran's soul allowed Naksu to live in her body to fulfill their shared destiny of stopping Jin Mu. In the final moments, Seol-ran's soul departs peacefully, giving Naksu full control of the body and allowing her to live happily with Jang Uk. This final revelation neatly ties all the disparate threads of destiny, reincarnation, and power together, explaining why these specific souls were so inexorably drawn to each other.
