Set in the fictional magical country of Daeho, "Alchemy of Souls" tells the story of young mages whose destinies become twisted by a forbidden magic that allows souls to switch bodies. The series is divided into two parts. Part 1, consisting of 20 episodes, follows the elite warrior Naksu, who, after a fateful battle, traps her soul inside the body of a weak servant girl named Mu-deok (played by Jung So-min). She becomes the secret master to Jang Uk (Lee Jae-wook), a powerful nobleman whose magical abilities were sealed at birth. Their master-pupil relationship blossoms into a deep romance as they navigate political intrigue, uncover dark secrets about their pasts, and confront the dangers of soul-shifting.
Part 2, titled "Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow," picks up three years after the tragic events of the first part's finale. Jang Uk, resurrected and now a formidable hunter of soul-shifters, is consumed by grief. He encounters a mysterious young woman, Jin Bu-yeon (played by Go Youn-jung), the heiress of the powerful Jinyowon family, who has lost her memories but bears an uncanny resemblance to his lost love. This 10-episode arc focuses on their intertwined fates as they unravel the final mysteries of the Ice Stone and face their ultimate enemy, Jin Mu, to save Daeho from destruction.
