Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (2025) is a 12-episode fantasy historical romantic comedy that blends culinary arts, time travel, and high-stakes court politics. The story begins in modern-day Seoul, where Yeon Ji-young, an ambitious South Korean chef trained in French haute cuisine, reaches the pinnacle of her career after winning a prestigious culinary award in France. However, while holding an mysterious ancient cookbook titled Mangwunrok, a sudden flight incident and celestial eclipse hurl her 500 years into the past, landing her directly in the Joseon Dynasty.
In Joseon, Ji-young encounters King Lee Heon (known historically as Yeonhui-gun), a ruler notorious for his fiery temper, erratic governance, and an extraordinarily hypersensitive, absolute palate. Mistaken at first for an intruder or ghost, Ji-young secures her survival by using modern techniques and unexpected flavor profiles to satisfy the King’s impossible tastes. Appointed as the Chief Royal Chef (Daeryeong Suksu) in the palace kitchen (Suragan), she finds herself navigating not only culinary challenges but also lethal palace intrigue, ambitious concubines, and treasonous royal relatives.
As the series progresses, Ji-young’s dishes become a conduit for connection, gradually softening King Lee Heon’s hardened heart and unearthing the suppressed trauma of his past. Across its 12-episode arc, the series transitions from lighthearted culture-clash humor into a poignant narrative about how food, empathy, and love can heal trauma and redefine destinies.
