Good Boy — Ending Explained

The narrative begins with Todd collapsing from hemoptysis in his city apartment while Indy barks at an unseen shadow. Fleeing medical intervention, Todd isolates himself in his dead grandfather's rural house. As Todd watches old videotapes of his grandfather (Larry Fessenden) and his retriever Bandit, Indy begins having nightmares and detecting a mud-dark specter stalking the hallways.

The haunting escalates in lockstep with Todd's physical deterioration. Todd becomes disoriented, coughing violently, and increasingly distant. Indy encounters the spirit of Bandit, who appears not as a threat, but as an ancestral warning of the house's lethal history.

In the climax, the shadow entity infiltrates Todd's bedroom during a violent nocturnal seizure. Indy attempts to defend Todd, snarling and biting at the darkness, but the entity envelops Todd, pulling his life force away. By morning, the house is silent: Todd has passed away. Indy rests beside his deceased master, gently resting his head on Todd's motionless hand—a heartbreaking resolution where the dog survives the haunting, but must endure the solitude of a companion left behind.
