Plot Turn 1: The Suicide Attempt & Salvation
After arriving at the Bilberry Woods Hotel and scattering his parents' ashes, Ohm struggles with writer's block and lingering grief. Overwhelmed by visions of his dead mother, Ohm hangs himself in his hotel room. Bartender Fiona finds his tape recorder at the bar, goes to return it, discovers Ohm, and cuts him down, saving his life.
Plot Turn 2: Fiona's Disappearance & The Investigation
When Ohm returns from the hospital, Fiona has mysteriously vanished. Mal claims she left after the Halloween party and points suspicion toward Jerry, the local woods hermit. Knowing Fiona saved his life, Ohm teams up with Jerry to search the locked hotel. Groundskeeper Fergal catches Jerry breaking in and takes him to the police, leaving Ohm to explore alone.
Plot Turn 3: The Crime Revealed
Ohm sneaks into the locked honeymoon suite. Inside, he finds Fiona's corpse hidden in a dumbwaiter. Mal arrives, locking Ohm inside the suite. It is revealed that Mal had a secret affair with Fiona; when she became pregnant and refused an abortion, Mal murdered her to protect his marriage and social standing. He hid her body in the suite because the staff's fear of the "witch" guaranteed no one would check the room.
The Climax & Ending
Mal sets fire to the hotel to destroy evidence and eliminate Ohm. Inside the suite, Ohm experiences a vision of his mother, who forgives him for the childhood accident and reveals how to escape. Ohm rigs a dumbwaiter clock mechanism to escape into the basement catacombs. Mal descends to hunt Ohm, but encounters the real Cailleach witch, who drags Mal down into the underworld in iron chains. As smoke fills the hotel, Fiona's ghost calls out to groundskeeper Fergal, who uses his crossbow to break through doors and rescue the unconscious Ohm from the flames. Ohm survives, reconciles his trauma, and rewrites the ending of his novel to reflect hope.
