Scissor Seven - Ending Explained

⚠️ Spoiler Analysis

"Scissor Seven's" overarching plot reveals that the main character, Wu Liuqi, was not just any assassin; he was Qi, the youngest and most powerful of the seven Shadow Assassins of Xuanwu. At age 15, he was recruited and quickly became their top operative. His downfall came when he broke the assassin's code to protect a mysterious woman in white, only for her to betray him and stab him from behind. This led to him falling into the ocean, resulting in his amnesia and him washing up near Chicken Island.

Throughout the first two seasons, his past catches up to him as assassins from his old life begin to appear. The conflict with the technologically advanced nation of Stan culminates in Seven reclaiming his full power temporarily to defeat the Prince of Stan, solidifying his status as a major threat to the established powers.

Season 3 sees Seven deciding to travel to Xuanwu to confront the leader of the assassins and protect Chicken Island. This journey forces him to face more powerful enemies and fragments of his memory. A key plot point is Thirteen being ordered by her master, Green Phoenix, to kill Seven. Instead, she grows closer to him, and in the season finale, she chooses to protect him from other Shadow Assassins like Black Bird and Manjusaka, cementing her change of allegiance. It is also revealed that Manjusaka was in love with Qi, and her jealousy over the woman in white played a role in his downfall.

In Season 4, Seven is afflicted by multiple poisons, including one from the Black Ice Dagger that Thirteen stabbed him with (on her master's orders to save him in a roundabout way) and another from his fight with Blackbird. This leaves him severely weakened and vulnerable. The season delves into the backstories of other characters, such as Redtooth and his doomed love with Chairman Jiang, and Green Phoenix's long-brewing plan to get revenge on the leader of the assassins. The finale sees the various factions colliding, with Green Phoenix making his move on the leader and the residents of Chicken Island uniting to fight off another powerful assassin, White Fox. The season ends on a cliffhanger, with Seven beginning a process to cure his poisons and potentially regain all his memories, setting up a full confrontation with his past.

Alternative Interpretations

While the main narrative is straightforward, fans have proposed alternative interpretations and theories, particularly regarding Seven's origins:

  • The Heir Theory: One popular fan theory suggests that Seven is not just a random prodigy but is secretly related to the leader of the Shadow Assassins. Proponents argue this would explain why he was accepted into the elite group at such a young age (15) and possesses a unique, unidentifiable fighting style. This interpretation frames his story as a subversion of the "chosen one" trope, where the heir to a dark legacy actively rejects his birthright for a life of peace.
  • The Lone Survivor Theory: An alternative theory posits that Seven has no grand lineage and was instead a lone wanderer who grew up surviving in the wild. This would account for his incredible resilience, resistance to poisons, and a fighting style that is chaotic and instinct-based because it's self-taught. In this reading, his story is not about rejecting a destiny but about a feral, isolated individual learning humanity and connection for the first time on Chicken Island.
