Troll 2

Following the devastating emergence of the first Dovre troll, Troll 2 catches up with paleontologist Nora Tidemann (Ine Marie Wilmann), who has retreated into isolated mountain research, haunted by her late father’s legacy and the unresolved mysteries of Norway’s hidden folklore. Her solitude is abruptly shattered when her former ally Andreas Isaksen (Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen), now advising high-level government security, arrives with an urgent summons. Deep inside a subterranean black site beneath the historic Vemork power station, the Norwegian military and research teams have secretly kept a massive, ancient troll known as Jotun in deep hibernation.

When an attempt to communicate and scientifically analyze the titan inadvertently triggers its awakening, the rampaging behemoth breaks containment, marching with furious purpose across the Norwegian countryside. Rejoined by newly promoted Major Kristoffer "Kris" Holm (Mads Sjøgård Pettersen) and equipped with advanced UV-light tactical weaponry, Nora, Andreas, and research scientist Marion Auryn Rhadani (Sara Khorami) embark on a desperate race against time. To avert complete national catastrophe, they must decipher the forgotten historical and mythological origins connecting the creature to Norway's ancient past before military force unleashes catastrophic destruction.

Director Roar Uthaug and screenwriter Espen Aukan use the framework of a modern kaiju spectacle to explore the consequences of historical erasure and the suppression of nature. The film posits that true monsters are not simply destructive forces of nature, but the suppressed remnants of a nation's forgotten heritage and ecological exploitation. Troll 2 illustrates that attempts by political and military authorities to control, weaponize, or extinguish the primordial past through modern technology will inevitably provoke a catastrophic reckoning with the living earth.
