Balls Up — Ending Explained

The film's midpoint turns on Elijah's intoxicated stadium pitch invasion during injury time of the World Cup final. Distracted by Elijah punching the giant Balls Up mascot in the groin, Brazil's star defender misses an interception, allowing Argentina to score the winning goal.

Brad and Elijah flee into the favelas and later the rainforest, where Santos attempts to frame them for high-level bribery and corruption to conceal his own embezzlement of tourism funds. Along the way, during an emergency river crossing, Brad is forced to perform a horrific Candiru extraction on Elijah after a parasite swimming upstream targets him.

In the climax, the pair confronts Santos and Pavio at an airfield. Elijah uses a prototype launcher of reinforced Balls Up latex to immobilize Santos's henchmen, while Brad manages to broadcast Santos's confession to the media via mobile livestream. With Santos exposed and Pavio amused by their resilience, the duo escapes back to the United States—cleared of criminal charges, but permanently barred from ever entering South America.
