Can This Love Be Translated? (Korean: 이 사랑 통역 되나요?) is a 12-episode Netflix Original romantic comedy-drama written by the celebrated Hong sisters (Hong Jung-eun and Hong Mi-ran) and directed by Yoo Young-eun. The story centers on Joo Ho-jin (Kim Seon-ho), a highly skilled, emotionally guarded multilingual interpreter fluent in Korean, English, Japanese, and Italian. His life intersects with Cha Mu-hee (Go Youn-jung), a struggling actress whom he first encounters during a chance trip to Japan. After a catastrophic stunt accident on the set of a low-budget horror film leaves her in a six-month coma, Mu-hee awakens to discover that her performance as the killer zombie "Do Ra-mi" in The Quiet Woman has gone globally viral, instantly thrusting her into international stardom.
As her career explodes, Ho-jin is hired as her personal interpreter during international press tours and a high-profile travel dating reality show titled Romantic Trip. Co-starring Japanese romance idol Hiro Kurosawa (Sota Fukushi), the show takes the cast across breathtaking locations in Japan, Canada, and Italy. Ho-jin attempts to maintain strict professional neutrality, often editing and softening Mu-hee’s brutally direct, unfiltered statements to protect her image from public media scandals. However, as the travel show progresses, their linguistic bridge transforms into deep personal intimacy.
Behind her glamorous superstar persona, Mu-hee struggles with overwhelming anxiety, imposter syndrome, and psychological trauma that manifests as intrusive hallucinations of her zombie persona, Do Ra-mi. Ho-jin becomes the only person capable of deciphering her true emotional dialect—her fears, self-sabotage, and unspoken vulnerability. Across its 12 episodes, the series weaves lighthearted globetrotting romance with psychological introspection as both leads learn to navigate the complex language of love.
