Set in the year 2050, Lost in Starlight explores a near-future Seoul defined by futuristic technology seamlessly intertwined with nostalgic retro culture. The story centers on Dr. Joo Nan-young, an ambitious scientist and astronaut candidate determined to secure a place on humanity's first return expedition to Mars. Her motivation is deeply personal: her mother, a pioneering astronaut, tragically lost her life during an earlier Mars mission 25 years prior. When space authorities temporarily sideline Nan-young due to unresolved emotional grief, she finds herself grounded and searching for closure.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she brings her late mother's broken vintage turntable to an audio repair shop and meets Jay, a quiet, disillusioned musician-turned-technician who has put aside his creative aspirations after burning out in the music industry. As Jay helps restore the record player, an intimate connection blossoms between the two. Jay is drawn to Nan-young's fierce determination, while Jay's tender, grounded nature provides Nan-young with emotional refuge and reignites his own passion for composition.
Their romance is soon put to the test when Nan-young is reinstated to the Mars mission roster. Facing an impending separation of over 225 million kilometers across the cosmos, the pair must confront what it means to love someone while allowing them the freedom to pursue their ultimate life calling.
