Pokémon Horizons: The Series marks a historic milestone in the Pokémon anime franchise as the first main-series installment to feature an entirely new cast of protagonists following the conclusion of Ash Ketchum’s 25-year story arc. The narrative centers on Liko, an introverted girl from the Paldea region attending Indigo Academy in Kanto, and Roy, an energetic boy from Kanto who dreams of becoming a legendary adventurer. Liko possesses a mysterious crystal pendant inherited from her grandmother, while Roy carries an ancient, brass-bound Poké Ball passed down by his grandfather.
When a shadowy organization known as the Explorers targets Liko to seize her pendant, she is rescued by Professor Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers—a globetrotting band of adventurers who travel the world aboard their majestic airship, the Brave Olivine. Joining forces with the crew, Liko and Roy set off across diverse regions, including Paldea, Kanto, Galar, and Kitakami. Along the way, they are joined by Dot, a recluse tech genius who secretly operates as the popular online streamer Nidothing.
As the journey unfolds, the overarching story shifts from personal self-discovery into a grand mystery surrounding the ancient adventurer Lucius and his legendary Six Hero Pokémon. Liko's pendant awakens as the slumbering Legendary Pokémon Terapagos, while Roy's Poké Ball unlocks a powerful Shiny Black Rayquaza. Together with the Rising Volt Tacklers, the young Trainers undertake Gym trials, master Terastallization at Naranja Academy, and race against the Explorers to discover 'Laqua'—a legendary Pokémon paradise lost to history.
