The Gorge

The Gorge (2025) is an ambitious genre hybrid directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Zach Dean. The story follows Levi Kane (Miles Teller), a traumatized former U.S. Marine Scout/Sniper recruited by a mysterious government operative named Bartholomew (Sigourney Weaver) for an ultra-classified, year-long deployment. Levi is air-dropped to an isolated, heavily fortified watchtower perched atop a massive, mist-choked canyon known simply as "the Gorge". His instructions are absolute: monitor automated perimeter defenses, never attempt to enter the ravine, maintain total secrecy, and execute any hostile threat attempting to crawl out from the abyss.

Across the impassable chasm stands an identical observation post manned by Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy), an equally lethally trained Lithuanian covert operative assigned by Eastern powers. Although strictly forbidden from making contact with the opposing side, the sheer isolation and shared burden of their mission lead Levi and Drasa to initiate contact across the divide using high-powered optics, oversized notepads, binoculars, and shared rituals.

As an unconventional, tender romance blossoms across the void, the subterranean terrors lurking beneath the fog intensify. When anomalous breaches occur and the true nature of their assignment threatens to destroy them both, the two snipers must decide whether to adhere to the rigid protocols of their unseen masters or risk everything to uncover the horrors harbored within the chasm.

At its core, The Gorge uses the tropes of speculative military fiction and creature horror as an allegory for vulnerability, trauma, and human connection. Director Scott Derrickson explores the psychological walls individuals build after enduring severe trauma and institutional exploitation. Levi and Drasa are discarded instruments of war—isolated in fortified silos of their own grief and cynicism.
