Duty After School (방과 후 전쟁활동) is a 2023 South Korean dystopian military sci-fi thriller series based on the popular Naver webtoon by Ha Il-kwon. The 10-episode series follows the third-year senior students of Sungjin High School, specifically Class 3-2, whose lives are upended right before their vital CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) university entrance exams. Unidentified, lethal purple extraterrestrial spheres have hovered in Earth's skies for over a year. When the spheres suddenly crash to the ground and unleash bloodthirsty, insectoid creatures, human military forces suffer overwhelming casualties.
Desperate for manpower, the South Korean government issues a nationwide conscription order for high school seniors, enticing them with extra CSAT bonus points for military service. Armed with military rifles instead of pens, Class 3-2 undergoes grueling boot-camp training under the strict yet deeply caring Platoon Leader Lieutenant Lee Choon-ho and Sergeant Kim Won-bin. As the teenagers are thrust into life-or-death battlefields, they must rapidly transform from spoiled, anxious students into hardened reserve soldiers while attempting to preserve their humanity, friendships, and sanity.
Across its 10-episode run, the narrative shifts from an adrenaline-fueled creature feature where students bond against an alien horde into a psychological horror exploration of trauma, paranoia, and internal moral collapse when adult protection vanishes and societal pressure consumes them from within.
