After entering the palace, Hwa-yeon gives birth to a son who is recognized as the former King's heir. Following the King's death via poison orchestrated by the Queen Mother, Prince Seong-won ascends the throne. The Queen Mother frames and executes Hwa-yeon's father, while Kwon-yoo returns as Eunuch Chun-yeong after being castrated years prior. Realizing her son is in danger, Hwa-yeon decides to fight for control.
In the climax, Hwa-yeon manipulates King Seong-won’s sexual desire and assassinates him with a sharp hairpin (binyeo) during an intimate encounter. When Kwon-yoo confronts her regarding the child's paternity, Hwa-yeon cruelly declares her son has no father, protecting the boy's royal legitimacy. Her young son is crowned King with Hwa-yeon as Queen Regent, but she sheds quiet tears on the throne over her lost humanity.
