Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Ending Explained

The film follows a classic tragic trajectory. After evading the police and the mob throughout the movie, Martin and Rudi are cornered on a country road. In a twist, the mob boss Curtiz recognizes their terminal state and lets them go. They finally arrive at the ocean, fulfilling their goal. They sit on the sand, smoke a cigarette, and drink tequila.
